In The Beginning…

Reading has always been a way of life for me. I love to read. I spend most all my free time reading. So, it was only natural I would also write. When nothing struck my fancy or held my interest, I wrote my own stories and poems to entertaine myself. I had the freedom to create my own world; recreate my own life. It was wonderful!

I created me in the jungles of Africa, living among the great cats. I became a nurse working during the Korean War. I owned a book shop where I could read to my heart’s content. There were so many other places and people and events to explore and I found it difficult to stay long in any one imaginary story.

Then I found myself creating those worlds and creating the people who would exist in them. I found that I could do even more with these imaginary people. I wasn’t limited by who I was or what I liked or disliked. It was so much fun! I could give them all sorts of things to do, ways to live, places to go and feelings to experience. I felt like I was actually in charge. Something I’d never felt before; a measure of control over events that changed what happened to my world.

Now, I am much older and with the assistance of my feline muses, I create worlds and events and charectors all over again. I take what I am given and mold it into something different. Something fun and exciting or something deep and thought provoking. But always something different.

I’m presently finishing up my first published manuscript for Inara Press and have enjoyed it so much, I don’t want to leave my charactors behind. They are fun and interesting and have surprised me over and over with their antics. Watching them fall in love, fighting all the way has given me hours of enjoyment and I don’t want it to end. So, it won’t! I’m setting up their next adventure now and can’t wait to finish my edits of the first one so I can find out what they will do in the next one!

Vist me frequently, and I will have one of my feline muses fill you in on what is going on. You can find out how they are working against me or how I’m throwing things at them. I’m sure that Dippity will be more than happy to sneak you some info as I write. Just don’t let him out, he doesn’t have much hair! :-)

Let me introduce them to you so you will know them when they appear.

Dippity Doo or Dip Dip, is a white male feline with large black spots like a cow. Now, can anyone tell me what Dippity Doo was named after? then I will tell you why!

Little Bit is a large slinky male feline with fur black as night. He has one small spot of white on his belly.

Mieke, short for Annamieke, a lost friend from The Netherlands, is a Maine Coon mix female feline who loves to hunt and often brings back her prey. We have words over this on occasion, so I am sure she will fill you in on this when it occurs.

Toby aka Tobermiester and Tobius is a huge mle gray feline with blotches of white much like those blotches of black on Dippity. He doesn’t talk much, so when he graces you with a bit of knowledge, you should feel honored and know it is profound or he wouldn’t have bothered.

Queen Elizabeth aka Lizzy Borden, is an orange and white female feline with the softest of fur and an attitude to match both of her names! Watch out for her, she is always up to something.

That is all for today, I need to get back to work now. I just wanted to say hi and let you know that more will be coming soon. Just don’t believe everything those muses try and feed you. You can learn more about Ghostly Mistakes available through Inara Press May 17, 2006 at my website  www.maryalicepritchard.com and you can always write to me at author@maryalicepritchard.com

I look forward to hearing from you!
