A Study of Men

Monday, November 6th, 2006

I’m not real sure what the mistress was up to yesterday but I have to share. Saturday and Sunday were really nice outside and all of us felines paraded in and out of the door all day long! Lounged on the steps to the office some and then explored the yard front and back.

Well, there’s a new building out back now that looks a little like the dogs’ barn but not quite. So, being the investigator I am, I checked it out! Nothing to it. It’s empty inside and just a wood building we can use to sharpen our claws on and since it’s off the ground on some bricks, we can hide under it. Don’t know why they got another one out there.

The old folks walked out there off and on all day both days. Doing what, I’m not sure but they pulled this long metal thing out of a round thing and seemed to be checking all the walls and floors for some reason. The mistress watched them and just shook her head and went back to writing. I figured I might better keep an eye on them in case they got into trouble with that thing. I made a funny noise when they let it zip back inside the round thing.

Later in the day they were back at it again only this time, two other men came over and put something on the floor. They had to unroll it and lay it down and it kept trying to roll back up. I tried to help, but they thought I was playing and kept putting me back outside. I decided to let them handle it all by themselves after they tossed me out the fourth time. Boy was I glad I did, they got out some kind of smelly stuff that was all gunky and stuck on you so you couldn’t get it off. I sure didn’t want any of that on my fur!

Sunday after lunch, they were back out there again. Those two men hung wire around inside the building. The old man stood around and watched them the whole afternoon.  It was fun watching them. Especially when they started the yelling back and forth with the old man in the house.

He walked back over and went inside the big house and a few minutes later yelled out the door about something. Then when one of them reached up to touch whatever was in the ceiling he yelled something ugly and jumped down and stomped around for a minute or two. Then they all yelled back and forth again and the same man reached up and did it again! Now why would he go and touch something he knew was going to bite him? Humans are really weird. You know?

So, they finally quite messing around with whatever it was in the ceiling that kept biting them and started working on something outside the building over the door. Looked a little like the one that has a light that comes on when the dogs run out to the fence at night. The mistress came over with her camera, (she explained to me what it was and she takes my picture with it sometimes) and takes pictures of the big tree in the back. Why do you take pictures of a tree? I need to remember to ask her about that.

Anyway, she snuck around and took some pictures of the men standing around outside the building looking up at that thing they put up. All three of them are standing there pointing up an nodding their heads about something. The old man keeps his hands in his pockets and watches them and nodds right along with them. I don’t have a clue what they are doing, but the mistress seemed to think it was funny and kept taking their picture.

Then she got them off her camera and put them on the computer. I have to say, those men looked really weird standing there pointing at whatever that was over the door of the new building. The mistress said,

“I’m going to post this on my blog when I get it clear enough your can see what it is.  Then I’ll put the caption under it for a good laugh.”

I asked her what the caption would be but she just smiled and said I’d have to wait and see. So, be sure and check back tomorrow. She plans to put the picture up here tonight. I can’t wait to see what the caption will be. As much as she and the old woman laughed about it, it ought to be good!

Chilly Kitties

Wow! Hi everyone! Lizzy here to say hi. It got cold out here! I love it. The squirrels are so busy digging their acorns I can just about sneak up on them now. Course they haven’t slowed down much so I still can’t catch them yet. But I’m not giving up!

The mistress is busy busy working on a deadline. Little Bit keeps trying to get me to play outside and leave her alone but I like sitting in her lap. Plus, she needs me to make sure she moves around or she’ll get stiff and sore! That’s part of my job you know!  What is a deadline anyway?

Little Bit says she’s finishing up one of her books to send in so I guess it has something to do with that. I can’t wait for Ghostly Mistakes to be out! You know the heroine is named after me! She’s a really cool girl who helps ghosts take care of business.

So, now that it’s gotten a bit cooler outside, the leaves are falling and flying around and that’s always fun! I like chasing them and when the mistress isn’t busy, she rakes up a pile for us to play in. Oh, and those squirrels are so much fun to chase! I told you that though already.

Have you ever heard them fuss? When I chase one up a tree it turns around and fusses at me. Chatter chatter chatter! They make the funniest noises, almost like a little dog barking. My mistress tells me that if I catch one it has big teeth and it’ll bite me but I think she’s just saying that to get me to leave them alone.

Goodness, better go now. The squirrels are all over the front yard! Don’t want to miss watching their strategies when they don’t know I’m watching them. Be sure to check back soon!
